Origin
The Bugisu beans that we roast and sell are the most famous Ugandan Arabica beans. Bugisu is located on the slopes of Mount Elgon in eastern Uganda: a high-altitude, rural area where agriculture is the main source of income. The Bugisu beans are grown on small plantations, often managed and worked by women who earn the sole family income.
Taste
The coffee beans from Bugisu, due to the altitude and climate, are hard beans that can be darkly roasted. As a result, this coffee has more body than most other East African coffee varieties and a lower acidity.
Our Ugandan coffee beans have a buttery texture and a deep, rich flavor, with notes of dark chocolate and coconut.

The auction system in Uganda is not as well-developed as in Kenya: farmers are not protected by a predetermined floor price for their products. It is therefore more challenging from the Netherlands to ensure that farmers receive a fair price. That's why we always pay €0.50 on top of the auction price per kilo.
The Local Bean Brothers not only pay a fair price for our coffee but also aim to give the family, the village, the environment of our coffee farmers a fair chance. A chance for clean water, education, employment. That's why we donate 25% of our profits to local projects that create opportunities for people and the environment.
